Anything you put on your body needs to be kind to you.

Unfortunately, most perfumes aren’t.

Lab tests run by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and analyzed by Environmental Working Group discovered 38 secret chemicals in 17 of the most popular name brand fragrance products, including brands like Chanel and Giorgio Armani.

Most scents in perfumes are created from a mixture of stock chemicals, usually synthetic and petrochemicals.

If you’re anything like me, you prefer to know what’s in the products you use on your skin.

Luckily, there is a range of innovative natural perfume companies committed to using naturally sourced and cruelty-free ingredients to create fragrances that rival any popular brand.

Here are our favorites.

As always, if you have a brand recommendation, make sure to let us know in the comments and we’ll add it to the post.
